Liposuction Procedure
If you wish to undergo the procedure of liposuction you should have realistic expectations. You should be in good health all round. You should understand all consequences involved, negative as well as positive. Your expectations should be discussed with your surgeon. If you are certain you wish to go ahead and your surgeon is happy that you are a good candidate for the surgery then you should prepare yourself in the way in which your surgeon suggests.
Your liposuction surgeon will examine your health, skin and where your fat deposits lie. With this knowledge he will know precisely which procedure to use. There are so many techniques and options today that you may be somewhat confused. Due to specific training your surgeon should be able to answer any questions you might have and decide on the appropriate methods to use, etc. A good surgeon will explain to you as much as is possible, but remember that he/she is the surgeon and will know better. This does not mean you should leave it all up to the surgeon. Do as much research as you possibly can and make sure you understand the basics of what you are going through.
When you are ready for your surgery you will go to the hospital or clinic where it is to be performed and you will be put under local or general anesthesia, depending on how much fat is to be removed and how comfortable you feel. You may need to stay over night after the surgery, but it can also be done on an out-patient bases, depending again on how much fat is removed.
There are too many liposuction techniques to mention, but generally liposuction involves a tube (cannula) being inserted through a tiny incision and fat being suctioned out by a vacuum pump or large syringe. Much fluid is lost during this process and thus the patient needs to be monitored closely and fluids must be replaced.
The liposuction procedure should not take very long, and once over you may have a small drainage tube inserted beneath the skin to prevent fluid build up. You will also be fitted with a snug elastic garment over the treated areas to control swelling. Results will be immediate but you must give time for healing. You cannot expect to be up and about directly after your surgery.
Remember to hede to your doctors advice. Take it easy and do everything your doctor has told you to do. Don’t forget your follow up visits and be sure to inform your doctor of any pains of abnormalities you may experience after the surgery. If you have been patient and followed doctors orders you should recover in no time and if your expectations were realistic you should be happy with your new look. It may take time getting used to, but after you have undergone this liposuction surgery you should strive to stick to a healthy lifestyle.
