Face Lift
Technically known as rhytidectomy, a face lift is literally the surgical removal of wrinkles. It is a face lift procedure used in plastic surgery to give a more youthful appearance or “reverse” the signs of aging.
The very first face lift was done in Berlin in 1901 by Eugene Hollander. In 2004, the facelift was the fifth most popular cosmetic surgery performed. The top four were liposuction, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation and blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).
Generally a facelift will involve the removal of excess facial skin, with or without the tightening of underlying tissue, and then redraping the skin on the patient’s face and neck. It can be done alone or in conjunction with other procedures such as a lip augmentation, eyelid surgery or nose reshaping.
Face lifts can be done at almost any age. Obviously it is only necessary for people whose skin has begun to sag and therefore applies to those from about the age of 40. Even people at age 80 can have a face lift done successfully.
A facelift can make you appear younger and fresher, but even though it may make you look better and feel more confident, it will not make you look completely different. It can also not restore your health or vitality of youth. Your biological age cannot be changed! If you feel a face lift is something you wish to do, think about it carefully and discuss it with your surgeon before taking the leap.
If you want an idea of what a facelift will do for you, stand in front of the mirror and use your hands to pull back the skin on your face. This will be the permanent result of having a face lift. Of course there are alternative methods, such are lasers, topical creams, radio frequency emitters, etc. which will tighten the skin, but cannot guarantee the same results that you will get from a face lift.
Remember to take into consideration all the pros and cons of this face lift procedure before actually putting yourself under the knife. If it truly is what your heart desires, then the results could make a real change in your life, leaving you happy and content.
Some people may not want a full facelift, and may opt only for a brow and forehead lift.
